Funding Opportunities Announcements

The NIH is transitioning to a new application form, the SF424 (Research & Related), and a new electronic submission process through a web portal, http://www.grants.gov/. Information regarding these changes is available at http://era.nih.gov/electronicreceipt/. During this transition, the NEI will separate those funding opportunities which require electronic submission on the new forms from funding opportunities which require paper submission on the PHS398.

NIH Genes and Environment Initiative (GEI)

The NIH has identified the Genome Wide Association component of GEI as a community resource project. As such, the program aims to function openly by making all data available to the scientific community in a timely manner prior to publication, with suitable restrictions for protection of human research subjects. It is expected that NIH will establish a common data release policy for GWA studies prior to the anticipated award date for the GEI-GWA Program, and that all awardees will agree to abide by that policy; see http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-094.html and http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-071.html.

NIH Counterterrorism Research Funding Opportunity Announcements

The NEI participates in the NIH Countermeasures Against Chemical Threats (CounterAct) Research Network. The Network is dedicated to the development of new and improved medical countermeasures designed to prevent, diagnose, and treat conditions caused by potential and existing chemical agents of terrorism. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Toolbox

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Toolbox initiative seeks to assemble brief, comprehensive assessment tools that will be useful to clinicians and researchers in a variety of settings, with a particular emphasis on measuring outcomes in longitudinal epidemiologic studies and prevention or intervention trials across the lifespan. The Toolbox will ensure that assessment methods will be capable of comparison with existing and completed studies. Advances in psychometric research methodology, including computerized adaptive testing and virtual reality, combined with traditional performance-based tools, should lead to the efficient, flexible and responsive assessment of Cognition, Emotion, Motor Functioning and Sensation.
