Organizations across the country celebrate Healthy Vision Month in an effort to help NEI spread the word about the importance of early detection and treatment, as well as the use of proper eye safety practices, in preventing vision loss and blindness. AARP

AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that strengthens communities and fights for the issues that matter most to families such as healthcare, employment security, and retirement planning. To promote Healthy Vision Month, AARP posted information about Healthy Vision Month to its Health Blog.

American Association of School Librarians

The American Association of School Librarians, www.aasl.org, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), promotes the improvement and extension of library services in elementary and secondary schools as a means of strengthening the total education program. Its mission is to advocate excellence, facilitate change and develop leaders in the school library field. To promote Healthy Vision Month, AASL included information about in Hotlinks, its monthly e-newsletter, and shared Healthy Vision Month messages to its social media channels.

Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)

ASTHO is the national nonprofit organization representing public health agencies in the United States, the U.S. Territories, and the District of Columbia, and the more than 100,000 public health professionals these agencies employ. To promote Healthy Vision Month, ASTHO posted Healthy Vision Month messaging to its social media channels and shared information through its weekly newsletter to state public health officials.

Cigna

Cigna is a global health service company, dedicated to helping the people it serves improve their health, well-being, and sense of security. To promote Healthy Vision Month, Cigna has partnered with NEI and together have created an educational podcast that informs listeners of the importance of vision care and how a thorough exam can be an early detection to overall health issues. Dr. Rachael Bishop from NEI and Dr. Denis Humpreys of Cigna are co-contributors to the podcast.

CaptureYour365

Capture Your 365 is an online photography community that issues a monthly photo challenge and, using a prompt, asks followers and subscribers to take a picture of a different item each day. To promote Healthy Vision Month, CY365 drafted a blog post and sent information through its daily e-newsletter. In addition, CY365 also engaged followers on social media by creating eye-related prompts for May's photo challenge and encouraging followers to use the Healthy Vision Month hashtag when posting #CY365 photos.

National Association of School Nurse (NASN)

The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) advances the specialty practice of school nursing to improve the health and academic success of all students. To promote Healthy Vision Month, NASN highlighted the observance in its member newsletter and featured ideas on its website for how nurses can celebrate HVM in their communities.

National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP)

The National Diabetes Education Program works to improve the treatment and outcomes for people with diabetes, promote early diagnosis, and prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. To promote Healthy Vision Month, NDEP shared information about the observance in its News and Notes newsletter and posted Healthy Vision Month information through its social media channels.

National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)

The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) is the largest organization in the world committed to promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all. NSTA promoted Healthy Vision Month through its member newspaper, NSTA Reports, and it posted the observance as well as ideas for celebrating HVM to NSTA's events calendar at www.nsta.org/publications/calendar.
