2003 NEI Summer Student Experiences

Reza Seperdad

This summer, as a Summer Research Fellow, I was fortunate enough to work under Dr. Chi-Chao Chan in the Laboratory of Immunology at the NEI. We studied the role of interferon-gamma in the pathogenesis of eye inflammation. More specifically, we examined the ocular mRNA and systemic levels of various inflammatory cytokines and the ocular histopathology of experimentally induced uveitis. My experience at the NEI has enabled me to see first hand the wonderful and amazing research being conducted in the field of ophthalmology and further increased my desire to pursue a career in ophthalmology.

Reza Sepehrdad, completed his first year medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY
