Atsuhiro Kanda, Ph.D.

Atsuhiro earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science from Setsunan University in Osaka, Japan. Prior to joining the N-NRL, he worked at Suntory Institute for Bioorganic Research (SUNBOR) in Japan where he studied cloning of cDNA sequences encoding bioactive peptides and those of receptors isolated from mollusks, and genome structure analysis.

He began working in the N-NRL in May 2005. Atsuhiro is interested in the study of retinal degenerative diseases and functional analysis of genes/variants associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). He will also be involved in defining cellular/functional changes associated with aging of the retina and pathogenic mechanism(s) underlying AMD.
