Clinical Immunology and Trials
A Research Fellow or Staff Scientist position is available in the Clinical Immunology Section, Laboratory of Immunology, National Eye Institute, NIH, in Bethesda, MD. A major focus of the research is in studying patients with various types of ocular disease, including uveitis and age related macular degeneration. We are interested in evaluating the molecular, cellular, and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate the development of ocular inflammatory disease with the emphasis on human disease. Particular interest for this position is on epigenetic mechanisms that regulate the expression of disease or changes that occur during therapies, including oral tolerance. Cellular and immunopathogenic mechanisms are studied in patient samples using real-time PCR, protein blotting techniques, flow cytometry, microarrays, RNA-seq, and ChIP-seq. A goal of the laboratory is to develop epigenetic therapy.
The successful candidate should be a highly motivated and creative Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. scientist with a reasonable publication record and must have experience in immunology and epigenetics. A strong background in cellular immunology, molecular biology, and human disease mechanisms is preferred.
Appointment as Research Fellow or as Staff Scientist will depend on the candidate's experience. Salary is commensurate with experience, with full government benefits. The lab's research interest can be gleaned from the section website at www.nei.nih.gov/intramural/clini.asp.
