Staff Clinician: Ophthalmologist
With nation-wide responsibility for improving the health and well-being of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and of NIH's research Institutes.
The National Eye Institute (NEI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, is recruiting a Staff Clinician to support an Ophthalmic Genetics and Visual Function Branch (OGVFB) research program on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with inherited retinal dystrophies and other ocular genetic disorders. The individual selected should be an ophthalmologist with some clinical trials experience who has special interest in conducting clinical research in the field of retinal degenerations and developmental ocular diseases.
The successful individual will possess an M.D. degree, have completed an accredited residency in ophthalmology, and be ABO board certified or board eligible. Completion of a retinal or ophthalmic genetics fellowship is highly desired but not required. The incumbent will be responsible for participating in an active research program focused on the identification of disease risk factors and potential new treatments for patients primarily with inherited retinal dystrophies and other ocular genetic disorders including developmental abnormalities.
