This Low Vision Awareness Month, NEI is highlighting the accomplishments of people living with low vision.

We asked people with low vision to share their inspiring stories and their advice for people living with low vision and their loved ones. From February 17 to 21, 2020, we’ll be highlighting the stories of these #LowVisionLeaders on social media!

Charlie is a lawyer who received rehabilitation from the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired. After his training, he started playing on the DC Blind Hockey team. Then in 2019, he made the National Blind Hockey team! He explains that his team has been a huge source of support for him while dealing with vision loss.

Elaine is an employment services career counselor at Lighthouse of Central Florida. She was born with underdeveloped optic nerves, making her early days at school very challenging. In college, she went through vision rehabilitation and started using assistive technology. She says these tools changed her life!
