Mission
The American Academy of Optometry (AAO) is a professional organization of optometrists, vision scientists, and optometric students in more than 40 countries. The mission of AAO is to promote the art, science, and research of vision care by supporting research and educational programs in optometry and related sciences.

AAO has more than 8,000 members around the world.
Programs
AAO provides continuing education to member and nonmember optometrists and vision scientists. AAO fosters research and disseminates knowledge in vision science internationally. In addition to admitting Fellows through demonstrated competence, AAO provides earned Diplomate programs in nine fields. The sister organization of AAO is the American Optometric Foundation.
