BACKGROUND, PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE:
The National Eye Institute (NEI) has a custom-assembled adaptive optics instrument that was developed in collaboration with the FDA. NEI requires a new light source to replace an existing component within the custom-assembled adaptive optics instrument. A broadband light source that is compatible with the existing instrumentation is needed. A description of the current instrumentation is available at (Bower, Andrew J., et al. "Integrating adaptive optics-SLO and OCT for multimodal visualization of the human retinal pigment epithelial mosaic." Biomedical Optics Express 12.3 (2021): 1449-1466). The spectral properties of the light source need to be matched with an existing 980-1180 nm OCT spectrometer for use in a spectral domain optical coherence tomography module. In addition, the max power needs to be 17.5 mW or greater in order to improve the current imaging capabilities of the spectral domain optical coherence tomography module. Since this is a replacement item, compatibility with existing hardware and software will be prioritized.
