BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research (LSR) performs research in the fundamental brain mechanisms that allow sensory-motor coordination, specifically the visual/oculomotor system. In the Eye Movements and Visual Selection Section, the goal is to understand the neuronal mechanisms that control which visual signals are used during movements of the eyes, and during visual selection even in the absence of overt orienting movements.
Some of this research is conducted using rodent animal models, where it is possible to apply intracellular recording and cell-attached recording approaches that allow identification and manipulation of specific neurons within brain circuits, and also more recently developed “optogenetic” techniques that make it possible to manipulate the activity of specific classes of neurons using light introduced into the brain with small fiber optic probes. The ability to apply these neuron-specific techniques in the rodent makes it possible to identify and functionally dissect the neuronal circuits involved in visual selection, in ways that are not yet possible in other animal models.
Purpose and Objective
LSR requires the data acquisition and control systems that is uniquely suited for these demanding experiments. Below are the list of product specification and configuration that will satisfy the government requirement.
