BACKGROUND, PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE:
The laboratory within the National Eye Institute study about functions of proteins associating to α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptor, an ionotropic glutamate receptor, in retinal neurons by electrophysiology to identify pathological changes in human eye diseases. To analyze AMPA receptor channel properties in our experiments, cytoplasmic membranes of single neuron containing the receptors must be exposed to the solution containing agonists for very short time. The device changing the solutions is required to move 100 micron distance back and forth in 2 msec.

The product we are purchasing provides superfast movement of glass capillaries at a millisecond level. It salient characteristics are as follows:

  1. PZT Head travels 300 µm
