We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and bright individual with a biochemistry and cellular biology background and expertise in modern molecular biological approaches, who is interested in studies of retinal cells in a range of human retinal degeneration diseases. The scientist will participate in projects regarding the contribution of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) protein to retinal homeostasis. The candidate will be instrumental in identifying and developing novel methodologies to characterize PEDF functions. These methodologies will be used for biochemical, and cellular and molecular biological studies for the elucidation of PEDF functions linked to physiology and disease in the eye. The candidate will also participate in performing long-term assays of compounds identified during the development of the cellular biological studies in animal models of retinal degeneration.
The candidates must hold a MSc and/or Ph.D. degree or equivalent with at least 3 years of post-degree research experience. A proven track record of productivity judged by peer-reviewed publications is required. The successful candidate must have a strong background in the use of biochemical, genetic, molecular and/or cellular approaches, high resolution microscopy imaging, quantitative cell biology, and analyses of subcellular structure and dynamics. Expertise in retinal pigment epithelial or neural retinal cell cultures, and retinal explants is desirable. Experience in primary cell culture establishment, retinal explant cultures, and/or animal handling will be viewed favorably.
