Effective treatments for diabetic retinopathy developed of the past 50 years are, in part, based on NEI-supported randomized, controlled clinical trials, including the Diabetic Retinopathy Study (DRS), the Diabetic Retinopathy Vitrectomy Study (DRVS), and the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS).
