Edmond Fitzgibbon, M.D.
Dr. Edmond Fitzgibbon is a neuro-ophthalmolgist in the National Eye Institute’s (NEI) Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research (LSR). He specializes in eye movements in patients with neuro-degenerative disease and follows patients with neurofibromatosis types 1 and 2 and fibrous dysplasia. He also collaborates with other institutes in following patients with these diseases.
Dr. Fitzgibbon received a degree in Physics at Cornell University in 1974 and completed his medical degree at Albany Medical College in 1978 followed by a one-year internship there. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic in 1983 and continued on as a vitreo-retinal fellow until 1984.
He has been with the NEI since 1984, starting as a fellow. His clinical work began in 1985 seeing patients along with former colleagues Drs. David Cogan, Jon Currie and Jim Carl. His research involves using eye movement studies as a biomarker to diagnose and stage disease in patients with neuro-degenerative disease.
