NEI is hosting a hands-on-keyboard workshop where attendees will learn how HL7 FHIR can be used to support ophthalmic research. Registration is open.

Anyone interested in using SMART on FHIR, clinical decision support applications, or ML/AI for ophthalmic health research would benefit from the workshop. Recommended pre-requisites: Java experience, although the workshop will begin with a demonstration that is accessible to all healthcare or informatics professionals.

Part of the NIH Common Fund’s Bridge2AI program, Dr. Aaron Lee (University of Washington) will discuss his flagship project, AI-READI (Artificial Intelligence Ready and Equitable Atlas for Diabetes Insights), a groundbreaking and ethically-sourced dataset enabling artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) research to uncover critical insights into type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and pathways to health. The event will offer opportunities for dialogue with Dr. Lee and ask for audience input on future topics of interest.
