Hispanic/Latino eye health at a glance
- Hispanics/Latinos have high rates of eye diseases and conditions like diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma
- Almost 8 out of 10 Hispanics/Latinos with glaucoma don’t know they have it
- Too many Hispanics/Latinos aren’t getting regular dilated eye exams
The Hispanic/Latino population in the United States has some of the highest rates of vision loss and blindness caused by eye disease — and unfortunately, these rates are getting higher. Eye diseases and conditions that Hispanic/Latino people are particularly at risk for include diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
The good news is that comprehensive dilated eye exams can find many of these eye diseases early, when they’re often easier to treat. That’s why helping Hispanic/Latino people learn about eye exams and eye disease treatment is important.
The ¡Ojo con su visión! initiative can help you spread the word about eye health among Hispanics and Latinos in your community. You can help prevent vision loss and blindness!
