The Office of the Scientific Information Officer (OSIO) works closely with NEI scientists, labs, and Cores to support and enable their research IT needs.
The primary mission of the OSIO is to enable NEI scientists to effectively and successfully use research IT as part of their daily scientific research work. Research IT needs range from scientific applications and workflows to data storage, data analytics, and data management solutions to bespoke IT infrastructure associated with scientific instrumentation. As part of this mission, the OSIO provides NEI researchers with:
- Advice with any kind of research-related IT question or problem
- Research IT strategy and planning. E.g., IT planning for the acquisition of new instruments or upgrades to existing infrastructure
- Research IT-focused training and workshops
- Support for data storage, data management, and data sharing
Bioinformatics Core
The OSIO Bioinformatics Core provides computational and bioinformatics support to NEI scientists via ad-hoc and project-based support. Topics for Bioinformatics Core projects range from genetics to image analysis, to machine learning, to cloud computing. Ad-hoc support activities include troubleshooting analysis scripts or programming and workflow development support.
Scientific IT Core
The OSIO Scientific IT Core partners with NEI ITMB to provide NEI researchers with a versatile, high-performance scientific data storage (SDS) platform that includes data management, data sharing, data transfer, and data archival capabilities. In addition, the Sci IT Core provides researchers with advice and support for scientific instrumentation and workstations, including network connectivity and data transfer and storage.
