NEI Eye Clinic

Since the early 1970s, NEI’s Eye Clinic has hosted clinical research studies and trials that help find new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat eye disease and vision loss.

Who can come to the Eye Clinic?

NEI’s Eye Clinic is for patients who are part of an NEI clinical trial or study. We don’t provide regular eye care or eye exams. If you need routine eye care, see our tips for finding an eye doctor

Refer a patient to the Eye Clinic

If you are an optometrist or ophthalmologist interested in referring a patient to a clinical study at NEI, call the NEI Recruitment Coordinator at (301) 402-4726

If there is an NEI investigator with the appropriate expertise, we can evaluate your patient to see if they qualify for an NIH clinical study. If the patient doesn’t qualify, NEI won’t be able to treat them.
