Biography

Dr. Jeffrey received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications) from the University of Central Queensland in Australia.  After working for a telecommunications company, his career sidestepped into clinical electrophysiology, first at Sydney Eye Hospital and then Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, UK.  Dr. Jeffrey received a Ph.D. in retinal biology from the Flinders University of South Australia.  His graduate studies focused on understanding the role of omega-3 long-chain fatty acids, particularly docosahexaenoic acid, on retinal function.  He then went onto purse postdoctoral training in the lab of Eileen Birch, using psychophysics to understand human visual development. Dr. Jeffrey was named Head of the Visual function at the National Eye Institute in 2011.
