The National Eye Institute recently appointed two new members to its National Advisory Eye Council.

Dr. Steven McLeod is chair of the department of ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. McLeod specializes in refractive eye surgery, cataract and corneal disease. His research interests include the development of an intraocular lens to restore both near and far vision to patients undergoing cataract surgery. Dr. McLeod is on the editorial board of JAMA Ophthalmology.

Dr. Monica Vetter is chair of the department of neurobiology and anatomy, and professor of ophthalmology, at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Dr. Vetter's research focus includes the role of microglia in neuronal decline, and the definition of gene regulatory and signaling pathways in the birth of new neurons in the retina. Dr. Vetter is associate editor of Developmental Dynamics.
